Can you book a stay with a sauna near Capitol Reef?
Not here, not yet. Our sauna, cold plunge and open-air soaking tubs are planned for the 2027 season and none of it is built. If a sauna is the reason for the trip, do not book us for 2026.
In the wider area there is one obvious option today: Red Sands Hotel and Spa in Torrey, Utah trades on a spa, and several other properties in town have hot tubs. When does it arrive, and when can you book?
Two different dates, and they are easy to conflate. Advance reservations for the property open October 1, 2026. The wellness build-out is planned for the 2027 season, alongside the conversion of the property to geodesic domes. So you will be able to reserve a stay well before the circuit exists.
The property is under contract rather than closed. Treat the 2027 season as an intention, not a promise. If the close slips, the build slips with it.
What exactly is planned?
A sauna, a cold plunge, open-air soaking tubs and outdoor movie nights, built as one circuit rather than scattered as separate amenities. Cedar, blackened steel and weathered timber, sitting low, in the same material language as the rest of the rebuild.
It will be a small circuit attached to a lodging property, not a public spa. No day passes, no treatments, no therapists, no bookable appointments. Guests, and that is it.
Why does the sky matter to a hot tub?
Because it is the only reason to soak here rather than anywhere closer to home. Capitol Reef National Park was certified a Gold-tier International Dark Sky Park in 2015, and Torrey, Utah was certified an International Dark Sky Community in January 2018, the first national park gateway community in the United States to earn it.
That is a build constraint as much as a selling line. The lighting plan is warm, downward only, confined to the buildings and low deck markers, with the ground left dark. A wellness deck lit like a resort pool would cancel the thing people drove five hours for.
The darkest, clearest nights fall between November and March, around the new moon, which is also when an outdoor tub is at its best.
What can you actually do here in the meantime?
Sleep somewhere very dark and walk into a national park in the morning. 6 bedrooms each with a private bath, a full shared kitchen, self check-in, at 7,000 feet in a pinyon grove looking over the Fremont River valley. Outside it is trails, slot canyons, red rock and OHV routes, minutes from Torrey, Utah.
Groups can take the whole building. That is the one thing here that is genuinely unusual today rather than in 2027.
