Capitol Reef is a certified International Dark Sky Park and Torrey is a certified Dark Sky Community. The domes are the rooms built for that. One wall is curved tempered glass, floor to ceiling, so the valley and the sky above it are the view from the bed rather than something you go outside for. Each sleeps two and has its own private bathroom, a short walk from the dome rather than inside it. Six domes join the property for the 2027 season.

You do not have to get out of bed
That is the whole point of the format, and it is the thing people underestimate until they have done the alternative. Stargazing normally means an alarm, boots, a coat and twenty minutes standing in the cold at 7,000 feet in February. Here one wall of the dome is tempered glass, floor to ceiling, curving with the structure, and the bed faces it. The valley is the view by day and on a moonless night the Milky Way sits over the mesas, from under the covers.
It is a wall, not a roof
Worth being plain about, because plenty of dome photography implies otherwise: the glass is one curved wall facing out, and the rest of the shell is solid over the top. You are looking out and up through it, not straight overhead through a ceiling. That is a deliberate choice rather than a compromise. A dome glazed all the way over is a greenhouse in July and a fridge in January, at an elevation that does both properly.
The bathroom is outside the dome
Each dome has its own private bathroom, assigned to that unit and used by nobody else, but it sits a short walk from the structure rather than inside it. That is a real trade and worth knowing before you book. If you want a bathroom you can reach without putting shoes on, The Lodge has six bedrooms and every one of them is en-suite.
Why a dome here rather than a room
Capitol Reef was certified a Gold-tier International Dark Sky Park in 2015 and Torrey became a certified Dark Sky Community in 2018, the first national park gateway town in the United States to manage it. The lighting protection carries past the park boundary into the valley. A dome is the room built for that: it puts a wall of glass between you and the darkest sky most people will ever stand under, and then gets out of the way.
When they arrive
Six domes join the property for the 2027 season. Six structures stand on the site today, each sleeping two; what changes is the shell. Advance reservations for the property open on October 1, 2026, well before the new shells are in place, so check which season you are booking into.
